It’s no secret that the developed world has seen rapidly declining rates of fertility. It is now also increasingly becoming obvious that these factors are also affecting developing countries such as Malaysia. The Minister of Health pointed this out last year and there have been more articles this year also confirming the trend. Many factors have played a role, ranging from lifestyle factors such as smoking and obesity, to women postponing pregnancy till their careers are fulfilled. The advice: don’t delay having children. Time lost cannot be regained, especially for women, whose fertility falls drastically as they cross the age of 35 yrs.
There is no reason for men to be complacent either. They too have seen sharply declining sperm counts and fertility in all parts of the world.
