Miscarriage and weight

Weight watching

We have always known that a woman’s weight is correlated to miscarriage. However, it has not always been clear if that link is present in patients undergoing fertility treatment. A recent paper presented at the ESHRE meeting in Rome has shown clearly that if a woman is overweight and has ivf or icsi, her chance of a miscarriage is increased. And they have even been able to calculate the chance of. So if you are moderately overweight (BMI between 25-30) your risk is almost 75% increased and if you are obese (BMI over 30) then the risk is more than doubled. The message? Lose your extra weight before you try for your baby.
